Polyacrylonitrile fiber is a synthetic fiber made of polyacrylonitrile (PAN). It is usually white in appearance, soft to the touch, with good light and weather resistance, good warmth retention and chemical stability. It is mainly used in civilian textiles, such as sweaters, blankets and the like.
Polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber precursor is a precursor made of polyacrylonitrile as raw material through a special spinning process. This precursor is an intermediate material for making carbon fiber, and it will eventually get carbon fiber after a complex high-temperature treatment process such as pre-oxidation and carbonization.
Their main difference lies in use and performance. Polyacrylonitrile fiber is mainly used in the textile industry, focusing on daily wear and decoration. Polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber precursor is mainly used to make high-performance carbon fiber, which has ultra-high strength, modulus, and light weight, and is used in high-end fields such as aerospace and automotive industries. In terms of performance, polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber precursor has higher requirements in terms of strength, etc., and must be able to withstand high-temperature treatment in the subsequent carbon fiber manufacturing process.
