1. Protection against thermal radiation
- Both pre-oxidized fibers and aramid have good high temperature resistance. Pre-oxidized fibers can still maintain the integrity of the fibers at high temperatures of 200-300℃. When they are blended into yarns and made into fabrics for firefighting suits, they can effectively reflect and block thermal radiation. At the scene of a fire, thermal radiation is one of the main dangers faced by firefighters. This blended material is like a barrier that reduces the transfer of heat to the firefighters' bodies. For example, in areas close to the flames, it can protect firefighters from high temperature damage for a certain period of time.
2. Flame retardant properties
- Aramid itself has inherent flame retardancy and a high limiting oxygen index, which can prevent the spread of combustion in the presence of flames. Pre-oxidized fibers also have flame retardant properties. When the blended yarns and fabrics encounter open flames, they will not burn violently like ordinary fibers, but will only carbonize, thus providing firefighters with enough time to evacuate the dangerous area.
3. Mechanical properties
- The blended yarns have high strength and the wear resistance of the fabrics is improved. Firefighters may encounter various complex situations during rescue operations, such as climbing, dragging and other actions. Fire suits made of this blended fabric can withstand greater external forces and reduce the possibility of clothing damage, such as when crossing the ruins of a fire scene full of sharp objects, it can effectively prevent scratches.
4. Chemical protection
- There are often various chemical leaks at the fire scene. Pre-oxidized fiber and aramid blended fabrics can resist the erosion of chemicals to a certain extent. For example, for some acidic or alkaline chemicals, they can play an isolating role and protect the skin and body safety of firefighters.
5. Comfort
- The blended fabrics of these two fibers have a certain degree of flexibility. While ensuring protective performance, it can make it easier for firefighters to move. Moreover, this fabric is relatively light and thin, which can reduce the burden of firefighters wearing fire suits for a long time, so that firefighters can better carry out rescue work.
